Synopsis:
Chevy Chase is at his hilarious best in this suspense-packed comedy thriller based on Gregory
McDonald's best-seller. Irwin M. Fletcher, aka Fletch (Chase), is an investigative reporter for a Los
Angeles newspaper. In order to get scoops for his controversial stories, he changes his identity more often
than his underwear, much to the chagrin of his frustrated editor (Richard Libertini).
While working on an exposé about drug trafficking, Fletch attracts the attention of a strange
businessman, Alan Stanwyk (Tim Matheson) who hires him as a hit-man for himself. Stanwyk claims that
he is terminally ill and wants his family to get the benefits of his insurance policy. Fletch agrees to
murder, but he senses a scam and tries to uncover the truth.
Fletch ties the story together by checking out a ritzy tennis club, a Utah realtor's office and a pig farm.
Soon he's up to his bylne in frame-ups, murder, police corruption and forbidden romance. It'll be the story
of the year, if he can stay alive to meet his deadline! |
