After shooting the three 'prequel' films, George Lucas decided to further refine the original Trilogy, to make some fine-tuning adjustments. These adjustments would bring some balance between the six episodes - and in some aspects, to correct what fans felt were glaring character and thematic flaws with what had been done in the 1997 Special Edition.

This edition, issued in 2006 was released exclusively to "Best Buy" stores. It is a deluxe tin housing the individual 2-disc Limited Edition sets (for a total of 6 discs), of the "Special Edition" trilogy for disc 1 (which is the exact same disc as all other previous DVD editions) and then a 'Bonus' disc which includes the original theatrical versions of each film, presented in non-anamorphic widescreen.
