Out of all the females of all the species in all the galaxies, Capt. Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) has been selected by omnipotent Q (John de Lancie) to be the mother of his child. Janeway responds with an emphatic, 'No!' Desperate to end a Civil War raging in the Continuum, Q has decided to infuse the super-being race with new, Q-like offspring who have human DNA - Janeway's. But the sweet nothings, warm puppies and exotic tattoos of the cluelessly romantic Q can't win the captain's affection. Nor will whisking her off to the Continuum, where Janeway discovers the war is much like America's North-South conflict of the 1860s...and where she soon finds that she and Q are staring at the gun barrels of an enemy firing squad!

Voyager is mysteriously adrift in space, no crewmembers are found aboard it, and many of its systems are weakening. Only two sentient life-forms seem to be on ship - Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and Neelix (Ethan Phillips), who've just returned from a trade mission. But nonsentient life-forms on the ship may number in the billions. A lethal virus has come aboard and it's rapidly emerging from the micro into the macro, manifesting itself first as an insect-like pest and then developing hundreds of times larger into flying, attacking creatures of doom. Janeway knows her options are to exterminate...or be exterminated. Working with Doctor (Robert Picardo), she helps develop an antigen. But it may be too little, too late. Because a nearby alien ship has its own plan for combating the virus: attack and destroy Voyager.
