The shields are at a maximum, the drive is at warp 3...yet Voyager lies helpless in the grasp of a powerful distortion wave. As officers scramble to solve the emergency, they discover something else: the enveloping force is changing the ships layout. As a result, Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) can't find her way to the bridge, Torres (Roxann Biggs-Dawson) can't locate engineering and the Doctor (Robert Picardo) can't leave the holodeck - all of which complicates the response to the crisis. Tuvok (Tim Russ) assesses the situation and reaches an unflinching conclusion: in 68 minutes, the ship will be crushed. Unwilling to go down without a fight, the crew attempts countermeasures and finds that their efforts only worsen their plight. They've tried all that's reasonable. Now, as Tuvok suggests, it's time to try something others might consider unreasonable.

The Mystery of Amelia Earhart solved at last? A distress call from a nearby star system leads Voyager to an amazingly Earth-like planet...and to the discovery that one of history's most famous missing persons was abducted by aliens during her fated 1937 flight.

Having existed in cryostasis on the Earth-like planet for 400 years, Earhart (Sharon Lawrence) is revived into an era of flight far beyond anything she could have imagined. For Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), meeting Earhart provides an opportunity to thank the pioneering aviatrix for the inspiration she provided women through the years. And for the crew of Voyager, the visit to the hospitable world presents a fateful decision. Will they make the planet their new home? Or will they continue the starship's long, homeward journey?
