Three Klingon warriors arrive at Deep Space Nine looking for Curzon Dax and are surprised to find Jadzia (Terry Farrell) in his place. The Klingons - Kor, Koloth and their leader Kang (John Colicos, William Campbell and Michael Ansara reprising their Star Trek: Original Series roles - are on a mission to fulfill a blood oath they made with Curzon to kill the group's greatest adversary, the Albino.
At first Kang refuses to let Jadzia participate, but after proving herself worthy, she is allowed to join them, regardless of the consequences it may have on her career as a Starfleet officer. After sharpening their bat'telhs, the four warriors set out to meet their cunning enemy in mortal combat.

When a Cardassian freighter explodes moments after departing the station, a scan reveals that an implosive device was planted on board. Commander Cal Hudson (Bernie Casey), an old friend of Sisko, is called in to help. Later, Gul Dukat (Marc Alaimo) visits Sisko (Avery Brooks) in his quarters and insists on accompanying him to the Demilitarized Zone. There, they encounter a Federation ship under attack by Cardassians. War appears imminent as both sides trade accusations and threats during a meeting at one of the colonies.
Back on the station, Gul Dukat is kidnapped by a group called the Maquis. Sisko and two officers try to follow the kidnappers, but are captured by a band of armed colonists led by Cal Hudson.
