After locating Spock (Leonard Nimoy) on Romulus, Picard (Patrick Stewart) informs him of his father's death and learns of the legendary Vulcan's plans to reunify his people and the Romulans.

Back on the Enterprise, the crew continues to investigate the theft of surplus Vulcan ships and weapons. Spock meets with the Romulan Proconsul and reunifications appears imminent. Though Picard warns of a Romulan trap, Spock proceeds with his plans.

After Data (Brent Spiner) is able to access the Romulan computer system, the Proconsul is revealed as a traitor and the Romulan's plans to take over Vulcan become clear. As the Romulan invasion force, disguised as a peace envoy, races toward Vulcan, Spock, Data and Picard struggle to warn the Enterprise.

Paramount elected to present these two episodes as one seamless program. The typical ending credits of part one are missing as are the opening credits of part II. This accounts for the abnormally short running time of each episode. The opening and closing credits have been resequenced to include both episodes. Since this is the only 2 part episode which will appear on the same disc in the standard release pattern, it is unlikely this will be done for any other episode. However, this treatment was also used on Best of Both Worlds which appears on The Q Continuum collection.

Further, the watchful eye will notice that the images used on the front cover for the episode identifiers both come from Part II of Unification.
