On a mission to repair the Argus Array, a remote sub-station telescope, the Enterprise encounters a strange probe. When Geordi (LeVar Burton) and the notoriously shy Lt. Barclay (Dwight Schultz) take a shuttle to investigate, the prove emits a powerful charge which knocks Barclay unconscious.

After returning to the Enterprise, Barclay quickly recovers and surprises everyone by destroying the probe. Bursting with newfound confidence, he appears to be a new man. But concern grows when Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden) notes an astounding change in his brain tissue. Barclay has become the most advanced human being who has ever lived.

As his genius spirals out of control, Barclay's behavior becomes more and more erratic. After mind-melding with the Enterprise's computer, it becomes clear that this once shy man is harboring more than just some ingenious thoughts.

When the Enterprise hosts an archaeological symposium, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) rekindles his romance with Vash (Jennifer Hetrick), a beautiful archaeologist he once met while on vacation.

But their relationship becomes strained when Vash discovers that Picard has never mentioned her to his friends. Unbeknownst to both of them, the mischievous Q (John de Lancie) has been watching their argument and sets in motion another one of his devious schemes. When Picard refuses to admit his feelings for Vash, Q transforms him into Robin Hood and sends him and his merry crew off to Sherwood Forest.

With Vash as Maid Marian and Q as the Sheriff of Nottingham, danger lurks in every corner as the legend takes on a life of its own...and not even Q knows the outcome!
