Once a Borg, always a threat? When Chakotay (Robert Beltran) encounters the survivors of a war-plagued planet, it puts the starship's staff in an uncomfortable dilemma. The survivors are all former Borg organisms. They've broken the cybernetic link that held them to that fierce collective, and now they want Voyager to provide supplies and technological assistance that will help establish a new, more peaceful collective. Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), wary of anyone once linked to the most fearsome foe in Delta Quadrant, decides against fulfilling the entire request. But the ex-Borgs have an unwitting drone on Voyager who can provide everything they need. Their manipulation of him raises questions about the trustworthiness of any group that has the power to impose its will on someone - even when that will has a lofty purpose. Meanwhile, after Janeway and her crew find a Borg ship disabled and adrift in space with a thousand members of the powerful Borg race lying dead aboard it, they transport one of the corpses to Sickbay so the Doctor and Kes can perform an autopsy.

To improve his performance as the ship's physician, The Doctor (Robert Picardo) undertakes a personality enhancement project on the Holodeck, incorporating several accomplished historical figures' traits and temperaments into his Starfleet database. But he also adopts several aberrant character traits from those non-fictional figures and is soon over taken by a dangerous, cruel Mister Hyde-like personality.

Meanwhile, Voyager hosts the Mikhal Travelers, a race of explorers with extensive knowledge of the territory. As Kes (Jennifer Lein) spends time with one of them, Zahir (David Lee Smith), she's overwhelmed with feelings that, having lived one third of her life, she's reached a crossroads and asks permission to leave the ship.

Stardate Unknown
The sky is falling! A catastrophic asteroid bombardment hits the Nezu homeworld, and Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and her crew are doing all they can to assist the planet's inhabitants. An on-ship examination of an asteroid fragment leads to a stunning revelation: the asteroids aren't natural phenomena. They are the weapons of a race seeking control of Nezu. Meanwhile, Tuvok (Tim Russ) and Neelix (Ethan Phillips) are part of an Away Team sent to the Nezu surface. Neelix may have overstated his experience in order to get the assignment, and Tuvok has no patience with his shipmate's reliance on gut instinct. They must nevertheless find a way to work together if they're to survive the dangers ahead.
